SCALE II. PRESSWORK

The presswork prices have been revised.

Paragraph 1.--Provides for the use of double and quadruple paper whenever there is sufficient number of pages to cover these sizes. As any particular sheet would, if worked and turned, give sections of fewer pages than if perfected, the provision for perfecting is intended to give sections of greater thickness than would be obtained by the former method. The working of each side of perfected sheets shall be reckoned separately.

Paragraph 3. The ordering of fine work with half-tones under the Contracts will depend upon the capability of the Contractor to produce such work to the Controller's satisfaction and upon the necessity for special work.

Paragraph 10. More than 125 proofs ordered at one time are chargeable under this scale.

Paragraph 12. The quantity of paper allowed for 125 copies of a sheet is 129 sheets (four overs), but for 125 copies of a folio the quantity would be (if quad paper is issued) 18 sheets of quad, i.e., 125 ÷ 8 = 16the minimum allowance of two full sheets.

SCALE III.—MISCELLANEOUS WORK

The prices for all miscellaneous work have been revised.

For all Miscellaneous Work the charges will be calculated upon the cumulative quantity of each operation in any work; thus, whilst the folding, etc., of 800 copies of one sheet is chargeable as 875 copies (by 125's), the folding of 800 copies each of five sheets is chargeable only as 4,000 copies, not as 4,375. Similarly, 500 copies of a 12-page royal 8vo pamphlet would be reckoned as 1,000 pieces for cutting up one minimum charge.

The Minimum charge of 8d. is not subject to an extra percentage on account of work being executed on manilla, card, etc.; e.g., the charge for cutting up 2,000 pieces of manilla is 8d., not 8d. plus 50 per cent.

The minimum charge is for each operation; e.g., one minimum only would be chargeable for folding 125 copies of a work consisting of one 4-page section and one 8-page section.

Folding

Folding (sections). These rates are only applicable to work which has to be stitched, etc. A 4-page form folded singly would be chargeable under Forms Singly."

Glueing on Wrappers.-The following is an example of a charge for manilla wrappers with glued-down end-leaves :---

All other works shall be trimmed sufficiently only to separate the leaves and make the edges smooth.

Cutting up. When paper is cut to size before printing as indicated in paragraph 1 of Scale II, payment will be made only for the number of sheets reduced in size, and not for the cumulative total of sheets and offcuts, e.g., 20,000 imperial sheets ordered to be cut to double crown would be paid as 20,000 pieces, not 40,000 pieces (20,000 sheets plus 20,000 offcuts). The payment for cutting to size is not applicable to quadruple, double, or single sheets, which are cut to double, single, or fractions, as the case may be.

Cutting up will not be paid on each cutting (except as explained in the preceding paragraph) where sheets are cut up before and after printing. Charge shall be on the quantity resulting from the final cutting.

Ruling. The minimum charge is for 125 copies, e.g., 125 copies of a foolscap sheet ruled one direction, one side, would be charged Is. 44. under col. 2, and 1s. 8d. ÷ 8 2d. under col. 3-total charge 1s. 6d.

Manilla and Card Rates.-The extra rates provided for these materials will be paid irrespective of weight.
